It’s singalong and player on!

Left me like a nodule at the bottom of the ocean

Peaceful it is

Thanks! 🖤

Yoma, I thought you wrote that
….and they did the cover 😂

about

Some time ago we received a letter:

Dear Moondig Lunar Expeditionists,

As you embark on your extraordinary journey to the moon, I wanted to provide you with essential information about the element manganese, which you seek to find and excavate. Prepare to be amazed by its mindblowing and hallucinatory properties.

Manganese (symbol: Mn, atomic number: 25) is a transition metal, typically appearing as a grayish transition metal in its natural state. It is often found substituting for iron in various oxides on the moon, occurring in a ratio of approximately 1:70.

The primary use of manganese lies in the steel production industry, where it acts as an alloying element. When added to molten steel, manganese eliminates oxygen and sulfur, forms alloys that enhance malleability, strengthens the steel, and provides corrosion resistance. However, the wonders of manganese don't end there.

Here are some special applications of manganese:

1.Batteries: Manganese(IV) oxide finds application in batteries, powering various devices with its impressive electrical properties.

2.Chemical Catalyst: Potassium permanganate, a compound containing manganese, serves as a reagent, oxidator, and catalyst in organic chemistry. Its remarkable oxidizing abilities make it a favorite among amateur pyrotechnics enthusiasts.

3.Glass Coloring: Just like in ancient times, the glass industry still employs manganese on a small scale to impart a beautiful purple hue to glass, adding a touch of enchantment to the world.

4.Knife Manufacturing: Manganese steel is renowned for its ability to create and maintain an incredibly sharp edge. Knives crafted from this material retain their cutting prowess, making them a popular choice among chefs and enthusiasts.

In addition to these fascinating applications, manganese plays a vital role in our biological and physiological well-being. It is necessary for bone formation and involved in the metabolism of amino acids, cholesterol, and carbohydrates. As a trace element, our bodies require only a small amount of manganese, but its impact on our health is substantial.

Manganese is an indispensable element, crucial for the proper functioning of various enzymes and hormones. It acts as a catalyst, accelerating essential reactions within our bodies, facilitating favorable processes. Moreover, it contributes significantly to combating free radicals, slowing down aging, and aiding in detoxification as an essential component of one of the super-antioxidants, superoxide dismutase (SOD).

However, it is important to note that while manganese is necessary for our well-being, it can also be neurotoxic at high concentrations. Humans acquire manganese through food sources such as spinach, tea, soy, eggs, and herbs. Excessive levels of manganese can lead to symptoms such as hallucinations, forgetfulness, Parkinson's-like symptoms, and damage to nerve pathways.

As you venture into the lunar landscape, keep in mind that manganese is a remarkable and irreplaceable metal, possessing unique properties unlike any other element. Its hardness, brittleness, ferromagnetic characteristics, and diverse oxidation states make it a true enigma in the realm of elements.

One stable isotope of manganese, manganese-55, exists in nature. Additionally, there are approximately eighteen known radioactive manganese isotopes, with half-lives ranging from seconds to millions of years.

Embrace the awe-inspiring journey ahead of you, The Moondig. May your discoveries and excavations of lunar manganese unlock new frontiers of knowledge and propel humanity into a future of wonder and exploration.

With boundless excitement,
Me.
